Chesca Deans — former international athlete turned fashion designer — launches her new handmade lingerie collection through the COVID pandemic.

Chesca Deans was previously a javelin thrower for England and was continuously rounding up trophies and titles from the various sports she excelled in. From cross country championships to swimming galas to athletic meets and everything else in between, one would assume it was the career she was destined to have.

With fashion lacing into her life in the background, she was always very aware of how she wanted to look, what her style was, what other peoples style was and bringing that to life — all without the thought of making it a serious career. She’s previously stated that she had hopes of competing in the Olympics one day but a serious injury prevented her from achieving such a goal. Having reached the international level, she was content in knowing that fashion would prevail as a career path, but in an unknown capacity.

When she was 17 years old, she had the inkling that fashion was going to overtake her athletics. Knowing this, she chose to study business and economics A-Levels to accompany her extensive knowledge and profound adoration of the fashion industry. Later to form the basis of her own fashion company, Nomarch.

During her studies, Chesca found that she did not have the appetite to move forward with education. Thinking it was a restrictive path, she jumped into finding out how she can marry up her current qualifications with her knowledge and skills in fashion. She’s often credited her creativity to spontaneity, curiosity and exploration, all of which she said she was restricted to in education. During her experimental period out of college, Chesca started up her own company, Nomarch, and began planning on where she wanted to take it. She wanted to be as hands-on with her business as possible and quickly came to the conclusion that she wanted to extend her fashion knowledge into fashion construction so that she can better her designs. She began a small fashion construction course in Shrewsbury, learning from scratch all the necessary tricks and methods to produce top quality garments. Being a quick learner, she was able to take what she needed and use it for her brand.

After months of learning, exploration and planning, Chesca was ready to begin work on a ready-to-wear collection as an opener to her brand. However, the rug was firmly pulled from under her as COVID began to take its toll on the world.

With no one needing regular clothing, or buying it for that matter, Chesca established the one thing people would still need to wear — underwear. Having always had a hidden interest in lingerie, she bought a large volume of material and accessories and started creating underwear pieces to pass the time in lockdown. She created a large variety of designs and began sharing them to her Instagram page, attracting a vast amount of interest. From this, she thought she could make something out of it and decided to drop a lingerie collection as the opener for Nomarch.

The ‘Dream Edition’ collection dropped and generated global traffic within days.

People began to be interested in who Chesca Deans was and where she suddenly came from. She gained demand for interviews ranging from her home area of Shropshire to New York City.

Chesca Deans and her collection have been credited as being true and personal, with her own style and aesthetics translating well into her designs to convey her unreplicable personal flair. The enigmatic persona of Chesca herself only makes you want to find out more about her and dive into her work. Having full control of her business, Chesca creates all the brand's imagery, web design, social media and — of course — designs. It’s as personal as it gets.
